Anchor Bay Entertainment strikes with SCREWBALL: THE TED WHITFIELD STORY -- on DVD March 13th
Baseball: the quintessential American sport. Filled with history, tradition, achievement and a certain innocence, of a more simpler time. Oh wait. I meant wiffleball. Wiffleball? Um, well, wiffleball has its heroes too. And in 1994, one man would take the sport by storm, and earn the moniker “The Wiffler...”
On March 13, Anchor Bay Films presents the hilarious “mockumentary” Screwball: The Ted Whitfield Story on DVD. In the vein of A Mighty Wind and Spinal Tap – with a side of The Natural pop mythology – Screwball stars Ross Patterson (Stuntmen, The New Guy, Accepted), Joey Kern (Super Troopers, The Goods, Grind, Cabin Fever), Christine Lakin (You Again, Valentine’s Day, “Hellcats”) and veteran character actor Richard Riehle (“Grounded For Life,” Office Space, Growth). SRP is $22.98, and pre-book is February 15th.
Screwball takes place during the Major League Baseball strike in 1994, when the nation turned its eyes from baseball – the Great American pastime – to professional wiffleball. The story chronicles the meteoric rise and tragic fall of Ted Whitfield (Patterson), the greatest wiffleball player of all time, his attempt to break the home run record, and his descent into substance abuse. As told by his friends, his teammates and a couple surprise guest witnesses, Screwball: The Ted Whitfield Story is a cautionary tale for the ages, because his story could be ours...
